Brochure mode reduces paper size

I have created a document using a page size of A5. I want to print it on A4 paper as a brochure. When I select Brochure in the print dialogue it changes the page size to A6 and tries to print the brochure on A5 paper.

What am I doing wrong?

Printing a Brochure

I know how to do it, it has worked before. Has stopped working, hence my question.

Try

First steps to take before submitting a bug

I’m trying to publish a newsletter against a deadline, I don’t have time to do the bug reporting rigmarole. This used to work, someone needs to find out why it doesn’t anymore.

Perhaps you could upload your brochure here for someone to look at and examine?

Brochure mode reduces the paper size by a factor of 2.
Thus, write in A4 format and you get an A5 brochure.

Not helpful

With A4 paper:

The source document is composed in A4, portrait.
.
Then you get this:

I see that the Orientation option is disabled in your Print dialogue. Strange.
How did you confgure the document?
.
Could you provide a sample?

No, that is not how it used to work and how I expect it to work. You do the layout for the paper size of one page, in my case A5. Brochure mode needs to preserve that layout.

I’m trying to upload a 1.3MB sample file but the system refuses saying the file size limit is 4MB!

See if this works

I think, the issue is the Fileformat DOCX.
Save in ODT.

I’ve seen your document. Thus I do insist: your document is created in A5. Turn it into A4 (portrait) and everything is OK then when ticking the Brochure button. Of course, your document will need some adjustments but that’s once for all.
.
And yes, follow @Hrbrgr advice: save as ODT.

No, the last one I produced was also docx and that printed perfectly.

No, this used to work, someone has broken it, in the last 6 months since I last produced it. It is a nonsense to have to design for one size of paper and expect it to be fine when reduced. I’ve already spent a week on this and it needs to be out tomorrow.

If you can provide me with a macro that will increase everything by √2 then I’ll give it a go.

No it wasn’t broken in that period. It was partially broken already in 7.4.0.3 (summer 2022), the same way as in the current 24.8.4.1.

Namely: open an A5-formatted document. Click Print button. Expand the “Pages per Sheet” group. Select the Brochure item. Select the A4 page size. See that the Orientation is disabled, and the layout is incorrect.

Now click Cancel, and click Print button again. Magically, this is now correct.
