Calc - Problem Copying Cells 7.4.4.2

Have a situation where I need to modify CALC (7.4.4.2) entries in response to requests from management.

I’m not sure what I did, but I one were to look at the BOILER – HYDRONIC book, the first two boilers (B5 74,000BTU and B32 103,000BTU) have already been modified. I had to slog my way through this by using copy and paste method. It works, but is way to slow.

I wanted to click and drag up or down as required. However, I can’t do it. But, if I were to highlight and drag to vacant space to the right, it works. For example, copy A14:F16 and move it to A25, it won’t work. But if one were to move it to G22, it works.

Normally, the model is protected by using code 1234 and the cells accordingly. Once the model is PROTECTED, the GREEN HIGHLIGHTED cells can be changed to see the effect of pricing or volume changes. This way it prevents upper management from changing entries on purpose or accidentally. Usually the latter.

I have attached the model for examination.
Z MODEL PRICING - V21.00 $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $.xlsx (340.1 KB)

Your problem is merged cells. If you drag A14:F16 to G22 the merged cells still span 3 cells. If you look at A14:F16 again the merged cells, B14:D16 are now unmerged.

If you first unmerge cells B25:D27 then you can drag and drop A14:F16 there.

Personally, I would do just about anything to avoid merge working cells and merge cells for Headings only on a completed spreadsheet if it were really required.

Thanks for the response. Reading your response, I immediately thought of doing a copy and paste within the product description area. This would give me the ability to move to my hearts content. I was focused on “click and drag”.

As for the merged cells, the PURCHASE ORDER, PROPOSAL and INVOICE models have things going on in hidden cells within these models. In turn, these models rely on things as they are.

If you hadn’t responded I never would have thought about a different approach to my issue. Chalk one up for the good guys!!!

Thanks again.
