Calc unwanted grid lines in pdf

Hello,

I have weird white lines appearing in merged colored cells when exporting a calc in pdf. They are only one pixel wide.
It seems to be a problem similar to 54458 but I can’t solve it using the table background since I actually want different cells to have different colors.

test.ods (8.6 KB)

Is there something I can do?

Thank you for your help.
Marie

  • Which operating system and LibreOffice Version do you use?
  • In what file format do you save?

I opened your file in Calc and then used the menu File > Export as > Export as PDF.... to create a PDF.
The display of the PDF file in Acrobat Reader shows me no abnormalities.

78418 HB test - is PDF_.odt (32,3 KB)

Please be sure to change the file extension ODT to PDF after downloading.

Confirm an occurring message with “Yes”.

With me:

Version: 7.3.3.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: d1d0ea68f081ee2800a922cac8f79445e4603348
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: de-DE
Calc: CL

If I export your .ods to pdf,
test_78418.pdf.ods (9.3 KB)

  • In Adobe Acrobat I see no lines
  • In Android, possibly Samsung PDF Viewer, I see no lines
  • In PDF-XChange Editor I see lines initially, they disappear at Zoom between 800% and 1600%
  • In LibreOffice Draw I see lines initially, they disappear at Zoom of 450%

It appears to be rendering artefacts in the respective viewers.

@Hrbrgr yours is a Hybrid pdf so might behave differently, certainly in LibreOffice it does

As a workaround (cumbersome), insert a rectangle with the same color and arrange it To Background.

See that the shifted rectangle leaves white lines at the right of the green cells, and “cover” partially the lines in the blue cells.

No issue with Adobe Reader.

Thanks for your answer.

I have Libreoffice 7.3.4.2:

Version: 7.3.4.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 30(Build:2)
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.13; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Ubuntu package version: 1:7.3.4~rc2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1~lo1
Calc: threaded

When I open your odt file with evince (3.36.10), or Firefox 100.0.2 (64-bit) I still see the lines. They disappear in Google Chrome Version 102.0.5005.115 (64-bit).

It seems to depend on the pdf viewer then.

Interesting. In PDF-XChange Editor 9.3.361.0 I see no lines at any zoom level.
