Can't change footnote symbol's color

For improved visibility, just when I’m editing my doc, I changed the color of my footnote numbers – ‘Footnote_Symbol’ that is – to red. It works for new footnotes, but the old ones don’t change. Can I correct that? Where is the underlined tan setting stored? BTW, I can change the size of the number and it is applied to older footnotes, it seems only the color and the underlining won’t change.

If I copy and paste that section of my doc into a new document, I notice that styles are incorporated into the new doc, except that my footnote styles are not – they revert to black anchors and black numbers. So there’s some issue there. But there is no DF, I’ve made sure of that.

This a symptom of direct formatting. If you can’t find this DF, attach a short sample file for analysis.

Ok, stand by. Copying doesn’t work so I’ll have to hack the original down …

… there’s one page that shows it. Note, I can change the footnote anchor in the text to red with no issue, it’s just the ‘counter’ at the footnote itself that won’t change.
