Cell references and vlookup in Calc

I want to (a) get not a value from vlookup but the cell reference of that value, and (b) create vlookup arrays using dynamic cell references. I’ve expended a lot of anglo-saxon on this so far but can’t seem to wrap my head around it.

The problem arises from the use of a table of months and days and associated data, beginning with a variable start date. I need to establish sub-tables of months regardless of the start date.

You can’t change what you get from VLOOKUP, but you can search the item yourself.

Look for INDEX and MATCH as for example:

I would think of enhanced filters, wich can output to another table - if I understood your problem right. But maybe you are actually re-inventing pivot-tables …

for me it looks like x-y-problem? eg. describe the underlying goal and not half the way you think to solve it…

With Villeroy’s example, look at Help Grouping Pivot Tables or Chapter 8 Pivot Tables for how the dates are handled to display the Months and Years
