Chart Line Type changes when Spreadsheet is reopened

Hi everyone. I’ve just joined this forum. I have an issue with Libre office Calc that I’m hoping someone can help with.
I have created a chart and chart line type “stepped” has been selected. However, whenever I reopen the spreadsheet, the chart line type changes to “Smooth”. This happens every time. Is this a known bug or is there a way I can stop the line type from changing?

Behaviour can change depending on LibO version and OS.
Always give this information.
Can’t reproduce the issue with V 25.8.2 under Win10.
Trfy disasdk_129155_steppedXYchart.ods (22.3 KB).

Thanks for your reply. I’m using version 25.8.2.2 (X86_64) on Windows 11.

What was the result of your tests with my example?

I’ve just tried your example and it opens with the stepped line type. It got me thinking that the problem might be because I saved my file as a .xlsx Excel spreadsheet. I’ve now saved it as a .ods spreadsheet and it opens fine, preserving the chart line type! Incidently, if you save your test example as an Excel file and reopen it, you’ll see the problem that I had. Anyway, thanks very much. I have the solution.

Seems, your problem was »to ignore the message popping up« whenever you tried to export to …xlsx. WHY can’t you read and understand that message?

This is an extremely important information.
I never use alien storage (“format” is very misleading). I tried this time, and got the bad chart - as expected. I can’t research now how a similar chart created in Excel would look. Have no Excel for >20 a now and will never have one again.
MS can easily hire a dozen “developers” just to ensure continuous or re-establshed incompatibility. They could also hire the staff needed to make their promise true to support OASIS odf standards. They won’t. It’s their “raison d’être”. And they know how difficult it is for the developers of a free competitor to make good software if they are forced into the raid for compatibility with a bad one.
If you need to co-operate with other spreadsheet users, advise them to thoroughly consider if a shift to LibreOffice Calc would be wise. (It is.)

Steve1898 surely can. But many have a need to cooperate with Excelists - And MS are good in spreading the tale that their software is the “industry-” or even “gold-” standard.
Do you know numbers about how many computer users think that “spreadsheet” is just a dull synonym for “Excel”.

No, but I probably can’t count that far.
