Custom X-Axis Labels For XY Chart on Logarithmic

I tend to make an awful lot of XY (Scatter) charts with lines. Much of the work I do requires a logarithmic X-axis. This all works great except for the logarithmic X-axis labels. One can futz around with the “Scale” in the “Format Axis” option for the X-axis, but in my experience this never gives nice results for a logarithmic scale axis in LibreOffice. On a linear scale I have no problem playing with the “Scale” parameters and getting X-axis labels that actually line up with my data nicely, but on a logarithmic scale, its just always a mess.

The obvious thing would be able to select a range for “data labels” for the x-values for the series (taking numbers only, obviously, as text would be a mess) and if they are consistent across all the data series (they basically always are in my usages) one should have an option to make those the axis labels. Or one should be able to go to “Format [x] Axis” and have the option to select a range to use for the axis labels. None of these options exist, the only option I can find is the mess that are the limited “Scale” parameters which really only work in a reasonable way for a linear scale axis, but on a logarithmic scale generally only ever make a mess that never lines up with more than one or two points of my data no matter how long I play with it.

Surely there is a reasonable solution, other than exporting it with no X-axis labels and drawing them in a vector drawing program, there doesn’t seem to be an option I can find. Please tell me there is a reasonable option for this.

Please upload an ODF type sample file here.

Here is a trick: You can create a new line as a virtual X axis (of ycourse you can format it to invisible). And you can insert Category Label for the virtual X axis, and you can hide the labels of the real x axis.

I had made an example with logarithmic x-axis in User:Regina/HowTo Audiogramm Koordinatensystem de - The Document Foundation Wiki. Unfortunately it is in German. But perhaps you can run it through a translator and look at the screenshots to give you an idea how to create non default labels.

Thanks Zizi64 I’ll give that a looksy.

Thanks Regina, I’ll check that out when I get time. I’ll award answers after I have had time to play with these nice looking proposals, I am just on a crunch to do something else at the moment.
