Doc keeps paging to the end whilst editing

I have set up numerous writer documents all with embedded images. I then highlight sections of each image with a basic shape (rectangle). Each image is scaled to fill one page. Most documents include only one or two images. The images all have a clear background so I can embed a shape of a particular colour and send it behind the image. Most of the time this works but frequently when attempting to enter said shape or edit it the cursor suddenly jumps to the end of the document. Any suggestions?

My writer info:

This seems to me a bit contradictory: are your rectangles intended to designate some detail in the image? Then sending them behind the image hides them.

If the rectangles are only borders for the images, this can be done directly from the image properties, without adding extra drawing objects in the document.

Do you do it with an independent tool (like GIMP), external to Writer? It is usually much better to hand over images to Writer so that it has nothing to do (no cropping, no clipping, no scaling).

Regarding your spurious cursor jumps, how are your images anchored? Can you attach a sample file (max 3-pages) for analysis?

The images are anchored to a character (usually just a pragraph mark)
I could perform the function in Gimp but it does not allow for future editing. (i.e combining several docs into one and other minor changes which are handled in Writer. These documents become the master docs for a setlist that I play on bass or guitar. The sheet is created in musescore and exported as a png with a transparent background. Hence, I can send the coloured shape behind the image as a highlight, The shapes are anchored to the paragraph Image attached
