Documents not opening under Libreoffice 7.6 / Windows 10

Hi,

I have been using Draw for a couple of years on a regular basis. Since a couple of months I cannot open any of my drawings (but apply also to Write documents). When I try to open them the window gets completely grey and it keeps waiting. I then have to force close Libreoffice. I have Libreoffice 7.6 (see below) running on my job laptop (Windows 10 Entreprise). I have already tried a couple of tricks seen online, as using safemode, or stopping hardware acceleration, but those do not solve the issue. The only thing I found working was to uninstall the latest version and install instead 7.5.6, which then works perfectly. The problem then is that our company has 3rd party tools which keeps updating Libreoffice in the background, so quite regularly I find myself with 7.6 again (even if I unticked all the upgrade options). But ideally I would like to find what makes that I cannot open documents with 7.6 while I can without any problem with 7.5.6.

Version: 7.6.2.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 56f7684011345957bbf33a7ee678afaf4d2ba333
CPU threads: 12; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: default; VCL: win
Locale: nb-NO (nb_NO); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Thanks very much in advance for the help,

It seems like this issue is related to Norwegian Windows. I have done different steps to reproduce/avoid the error situation and can confirm the issue mentioned above, and with this member mentioning Norwegian locale and Windows 10, the following tests has been performed:
Windows 10 - Norwegian edition (Both Windows 10 22H2 Pro for Workstations (19045.3448) and Windows 10 22H2 Enterprise (19045.3448) ), where attempting to open a text document (from QuickLaunch selecting “Text Document” after right clicking the QuickLaunch icon, or attempting to open an existing document, in both cases, after a while I get the message “Not responding”

Locale: nb-NO (nb_NO); UI: nb-NO

I also tried the same in the Norwegian version of Windows 11 with the same result (Opening a Text document results in “Not responding”)

To verify if the issue was the same with the US Windows edition, a clean install of Windows 10 22H2 Pro (19045.3516) and the English version of LibreOffice, things appear to work normally.
Changing language settings to Norwegian with US Windows version still works fine.

Locale: en-US (en_DK); UI: en-US

The behavior with Norwegian Windows (Both Windows 10 and Windows 11) appears to have been an issue with all LibreOffice.org 7.6 versions.
Is there a way to troubleshoot if there is some libraries or specific components that triggers the “not responding” issue?

If it sounds like a bug then you should report it, How to Report Bugs in LibreOffice - The Document Foundation Wiki

Cheers, Al

It sounds like a bug and has been reported as 157564 – Attempting to open a Writer document i Norwegian Windows ends in "Not responding". - a similar bug has been reported by another user in 157135 – LibreOffice 7.6 stalls under Windows 11 - but in a slightly different environment.

I can now confirm that the issue appears to be limited to the Norwegian BokmĂĄl edition. Downloading the Nynorsk language pack for Windows, and change the settings to Norsk (nynorsk) makes the LibreOffice program behave normally.

works

I came over this issue after updating my mothers version of Libreoffice. Really grateful for the solution of changing windows to nynorsk (which also happens to be her preferred language). Now everything is working well.
