Format messed up on different PC, large doc with photos

I have a large .odt file - 400 MB - 170 pages, but a lot of photos. It displays fine on my desktop Windows 10 PC, but on a Windows 8 laptop the photos end up on other pages, the text also being pushed down to the next pages, all mixed up. Both PCs have Writer 24.8.3.2 and all photos are linked to page. The font used in the document (Garamond) is installed on both PCs. Are there some Writer settings that are not contained in the document and that I need to set on the laptop? Is it related to the laptop’s screen resolution?
I know a 400 MB file is not what a word processor is designed for - but it’s a book intended for publishing.

Unless you are mistaken, and not all used fonts are present on both systems - then it must be a bug. If possible, provide the (sanitized) document to a bug report.

This is a common error. If your text is reflown (which is apparently the case), your photos will stay on the page they were anchored to and no longer sync’ed with your text. There is a frequent confusion between anchor and position.

Anchor defines relationship between the frame and text. Anchoring To page detaches the frame/image from text. You should select To paragraph by default.

Position is the location within the page resulting from the anchor. This position is arbitrary within the page. You can opt for a position in the vicinity of the paragraph (ideal for “small” images) or anywhere in the page, e.g. top or bottom (better fit for “large” images).

Regarding the difference in layout, double or triple check your text uses exactly the same fonts, these fonts are installed on both computers. This check is made easier if your text is styled exclusively. If you direct format, discrepancies can go unnoticed because you must check manually every character. It is also possible that your direct formatting relies on default settings differing between PCs. Look at Tools>Options various “sections”, notably those involving fonts. These options are specific to the LO copy and can differ.

Are there any differences in printer settings (menu File)?

Thanks everybody. I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that on looking more closely there was another font in the document that was missing on the laptop - MarsFraktur, a gothic font used on just a few lines for effect (we’re a local history society). That was why it only started to get out of sync after 25 pages… So I installed that and it’s fine. I will go though all the pictures and set them to anchored to paragraph - I was confused as to what those settings entailed.
