Full page black horizontal line made of small vertical dashes

I have encountered these full page black horizontal line made of small vertical dashes in Writer, I cannot understand it completely and/or remove it.

It seems like some kind of break, but I cannot edit/access it vi right clicks or anything else. Selecting the line, even together with one line above and one bellow, does not remove it as well.

I am using:

Version: 24.2.7.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 420(Build:2)
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.11; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Ubuntu package version: 4:24.2.7-0ubuntu0.24.04.3
Calc: threaded

Here is an image of it:

I have searched and could not find this issue in any existing topic. Sorry if it is already out there.

We can’t diagnose on a screenshot. Attach the file.

There you go:

sampleFile.odt (9.6 KB)

The paragraph has a 3pt-thick bottom dashed border.

It can only be suppressed with Format>Paragraph, Borders tab.

Your sample file is archetypal of mechanical typewriter usage: everything is direct formatted. You should learn the style concept. The Writer Guide is a good starting point. Styles allow you to “forget” about formatting and to focus on your topic because all formatting directives are contained in style definitions which automates formatting. All you have to do is apply the adequate style when needed.

Thanks a lot, @ajlittoz

Actually, I have read in other libreoffice.org sources about styles, and tried it a bit. This will help me a lot as often export it to EPUB format. However, I like to make full use of simple and traditional tools as italics, bold, centering and etc. I understand that I should create/use the styles for it, but it is hard for the user to resist the temptation to use the buttons that GUI offers us right in front of our noses…

A well set up template for a particular job does not tempt you to use direct formatting because the styles are already there.

There is a toolbar that might help you wean yourself off direct formatting, click View > Toolbars > Formatting (Styles) to toggle visibility. It isn’t the answer but it might help as you transition away from direct formatting.
