Functions in form tool (data;form)

Is it normal for the form tool to overwrite functions in the cell it is inserting information into. I have a spreadsheet that has math function ie: =a1+b1 to keep a running total in a checkbook register I created. When I use it, it removes the or overwrites the function that is there. Is there a way to prevent this

Yes.

You probably based the Form on both Amount AND the Balance columns. Since the Balance is a computed figure, it should not be an entered field:

That “data form” is a completely useless anti-feature. Simply don’t use it.
