GETPIVOTDATA from a separate file?

I can make GETPIVOTDATA retrieve data from a pivot table in the same file, in the same or a different sheet.

I can retrieve a cell value from another file, where the cell is not in a pivot table.

I can not make GETPIVOTDATA retrieve data from a pivot table in another file. I keep getting #REF! Does GETPIVOTDATA work across files?

To illustrate the problem, I attached an ods file with a pivot table and a GETPIVOTDATA example, which was discussed in an earlier question on asklibreoffice.org. See the_spreadsheet_with_the_pivot_table.ods

I also attached a separate ods file where I attempted to use GETPIVOTDATA to reference data in the first file. See the_spreadsheet_with_the_GETPIVOTDATA_call.ods

Libreoffice Version: 6.0.6.1 , Build ID: 6.0.6.1-5.fc28, running on Fedora 28.

I think it’s no possible, like excel, needs the pivot table on the same file.
