Glue Points In Grouped Objects

I’ve been using Google Drawings for years and I thought I’d give LibreOffice Draw a try.

I noticed immediately that the glue points of objects contained within a group become unavailable to outside connector lines. To make the connections I need, I must constantly un-group and re-group compound shapes, which is untenable given the kind of drawings I typically make (signal flow schematics).

Strangely, while a connector line can’t be added to the glue point of a grouped object, it can be removed from the glue point of a grouped object.

Is there a way to change this behavior?

I don’t think so. When you group, the shapes are like one shape.

Workaround

Leave the shapes ungrouped.

Right, I mean, that much I had already figured out…

You cannot access a glue point of a child shape of the group from outside the group, that is a missing feature, see tdf#76277.

A group itself cannot have glue points, because it is not really a shape itself but only a list. Only the default glue points at the middle of the edges of the bounding box exist.

I see the bug report now, thank you. I will contribute to that thread.
