How to disable Text Overflow red triangle in Calc for version 25.2.0.3?

How to disable Text Overflow red triangle in version 25.2.0.3?

The search result answers are allll over the place for this, suggesting many different things that this version does not have.

The most recent result suggests a check box in LibreOffice > Application Color options, which I cannot find.

  1. Click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Appearance
  2. You cannot alter the Automatic theme at the moment. Click the New button to create a new theme, or download a pre-made theme such as Office 2003 Blue. Allow LibreOffice to restart.
  3. Click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Appearance and under Customisations, select Calc Text overflow indicator then untick the box Show in document

Or slightly more risky

  1. Click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Advanced and click Open Expert Configuration.
  2. Search for overflow
  3. find the CalcTextOverflow line and double click it to set it from true to false

Ya know, looking at it now, I should have been able to figure that out, lol. Thank you so much!

New problem. Using any custom theme at all messes up all colors across all applications, like making the scrollbar and background all white. Attempting to change them further causes everything to turn white. Deleting custom theme and going back to automatic fixes it, but brings back all the red triangles.

Potentially, that is the new look, see How to get back the previous UI colors?

Use the second option I gave

Thank you. Yes, second option is better.

Weird that the first option causes problems.

I use Office 2003 Blue without problems on 25.2.1 and lime for 25.8, also without problems. Just a different look

Man what an awful change this is.

I get it… we get what we pay for but man, who the hell asked for text overflow to be buried in the Expert Config menu? And ‘overflow’ doesn’t even bring up any results in the LibreOffice Help website.

Yuck.

I use Writer because it is a much better word processor than Word.

I like to have the text overflow indicator so I can easily see if something I have written will not be published because there is too much text for the frame. I then have a choice of reducing the text, flowing it to a another frame or increasing the size of the frame

Well, as the original topic was in regards to Calc, that’s what I was referring to.

The red arrows do an exceptionally poor job of indicating that text is overflowing - most of the time when they are removed and the document is printed, the text fits easily. In addition, until the text position is standardized (there is a LONG thread in here of a long-time known bug where the position of text will change based on the magnification of the program), it’s hard to see how the red arrows can even predict if text will fit or not (there are several times when text is cut off with no red arrows and most with arrows isn’t cut off).

Don’t mean to make this a whine fest - like I said, I couldn’t do better or even close, and LibreOffice is still a fantastic program for the price of whatever you want to donate, but I can say whole-heartedly that it works less well for what I need it to do than it did 5 years ago and many new features do not work as intended when they are released.

Hey, I can pay for something else if I don’t want this and there’s no reason to do what The Detour wants… who the hell am I anyway… but the program hasn’t gotten easier or more user friendly over the years.
