I can't get the Formatting Toolbar to show In LO Writer

I’ve gone to View>Toolbars and Formatting is checked, but nothing shows. I’ve unchecked all the toolbars, and un-checked and re-checked Formatting, but still nothing shows. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling LibreOffice, but still nothing.

My problem turns out to have been some kind of corruption in the user profile which I was able to resolve using these steps. I moved the old ‘user’ file out from its location and this meant that I was able to put elements of the user profile* back after restarting LO caused a new user profile to be created.
