LibreOffice 7.6 on Windows 10 - Tools/F7 invokes spell checker but no errors found

Can you please help? I had a problem in LO 7.3 that the Spellchecker failed to find any spelling errors. As part of this investigation I upgraded to version 7.6 - with the same result.

If I run the Spellchecker using F7, or have it set up to check for errors while typing, there are no errors found - even if I deliberately insert misspelled words

This affects both Writer, Impress and Calc. As I normally use only Calc and Base and do bother with the spellchecker in these then it’s possible that spellchecker has never worked on my machine. I cannot recall it working.

I’ve searched the Online help and this support forum without success.

The background information is -

LibreOffice version.7.6.0.3 on Windows 10.0 build 19045

When I press F7 I get the dialog box with “Spelling: [None]” in the Title Bar and the Text Language is set to [None].

When I go to Tools/Options/Language Settings/Languages the “Default Language for Documents” is set to “Default - English UK” and this entry lacks a tick next to it.

From Tools/Options/ Language Setting/Writing Aids there are language modules loaded - Hunspell Spellchecker, Libhyphen Hyphenator and MyThes Thesaurus. If I try the Edit button I get “Default - English UK” again. If I try to edit the language modules the language option doesn’t have a tick next to it.

From the help text I can see “The spellcheck for the selected language only functions when you have installed the corresponding language module. A language entry has a check mark in front of it if the spellcheck is activated for this language” but how do you install a language module? The help text Edit module does not help me.

I’ve tried following this guidance How to Download and Install Language Pack in LibreOffice and get this screen, which tells me that English (UK) is already installed.

I do have the other screen shots but this system will only only one image to be added.

Thank you for any help that you can provide.

It is the language of the USER INTERFACE on your attached image. You must install the other language tools too. (the Libraries)
.
Please upload an ODF type sample document file here.

Tibor Kovács,

Thank you for your comments. I must admit that I’m not sure how to “install the other language tools too. (the Libraries)”.

Here is the ODF file that you requested.

You can choose the libraries to install similarly to the UI languages during the Custom Install of the LO.

Tibor,

I may have found the answer. I had, as an extension, an Oxford English Dictionary. I’ve just removed it and am now getting the spell-checking features that i would expect in LibreOffice.

Thank you for you help.

Nick

That’s odd. The Oxford English Dictionary extension (if we are talking about Oxford English Spellchecker » Extensions) should only spell-check en-GB-oxendict (English, OED spelling (UK)) attributed text and not interfere with en-GB (English (UK)) attributed text. May it be that you not only removed the OED spell-checker but also installed an English spell-checker?

@ErAck, If I did install an English checker I didn’t do it knowingly.

When I press F7 I now get the spelling checked and in the “Text Language” field of the dialog box the “English (UK)” language now has the tick next to it.
