LibreOffice not recognizing Courier

I’m trying to compose in Courier (not Courier New). The font resides at c:\windows\fonts and I changed one of the paths to this folder. It still is not showing up as a selectable font. I saw an answer to a question like mine, but the answer seemed to be “a networked printer can supply it.” I’m rarely connected to a network with a printer.

Is there a step-by-step plain language guide on how to unlock a font like this? I’m on Windows 7, the font has an extension .fon. It’s frustrating to see fonts on my Control Panel but apparently inaccessible to the application.

Thanks.

That font file format (.fon) is old and likely not recognised by Windows 7. It will be easiest to install a free metric-equivalent version of Courier such as Nimbus Mono L or FreeMono in TrueType format.
