I use the instructions that worked in LO5, and cannot get mailmerge to actually add database entries to the document.

However, those instruction describe an 8-screen mailmerge interface. On my LO 6.0.6 and 6.0.7 there are only 5 screens, and do not include the steps that produce the output. I assume I’m missing something, but I don’t know what.
Since LibreOffice 5.2, finishing Mail Merge wizard shows a new Mail Merge toolbar with the output options.
By the way, please note that for LibreOffice, both initial numbers of version are equally significant, so it’s not meaningful to refer to “version 5” or “version 6”, because changes of same magnitude can happen between 5.1 and 5.2, as between 5.4 and 6.0.
Thanks. It works, but I was a bit disconcerted to not see the merged result until I opened the file I created. I suppose I’ll get used to it.
You could use “Edit Individual Documents” to open the single created document in editor. This would be dangerous to try opening files generated at “Save Merged Documents”, since there are potentially thousands of those (when choosing individual documents).
