LO calc 7.4.5.1 keeps crashing Windows 10

This is a repeat of an issue with 7.1.4.2
On windows 10 (all updates current) using LibreOffice 7.4.5.1 (x64), Calc now consistently crashes under any of these conditions:

  1. Scrolling a single spreadsheet. In this case LibreOffice stops working, and notifies Microsoft of the problem
  2. Scrolling a single spreadsheet with a writer doc open. In this case LibreOffice freezes all open docs, locks up the PC and crashes windows???
  3. Closing any non calc document with a calc sheet and a writer document open. In see 2.

After any of these crashes, every time LibreOffice re-opens it starts the recovery process, which (depending upon the circumstances) leads to an endless loop of manual crash and recovery, or an endless loop of LibreOffice attempting to open, which then requires killing the application in task manager - furthermore there will usually be several cases of LibreOffice open in the task manager when this happens. Killing individual instances, one at a time, makes no difference.

This situation existed previously, disappeared with a subsequent update and has now returned.

I have started in Safe Mode with no problems. Renamed the User info to User old and the problem returned. I’m a technophobe so please keep answers to everyday English as far as possible.

I’ve a ton of work to di so any help will be most appreciated.

On the start menu under LibreOffice find the entry that says LibreOffice (Safe Mode) and click that.

You will see this dialogue, tick the box Disable hardware acceleration (OpenGL, OpenCL, Vulkan) and then click Apply changes and restart.

If LibreOffice opens OK, then click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View and untick the box Enable Skia for all rendering.
Note that instead of unticking Enable Skia, you could try Force Skia software rendering. More info in First steps to take before submitting a bug - The Document Foundation Wiki

Thank you. This worked.

Thanks for your effort and your help, but sadly enough it did’nt work for me. I’m running on the latest updates of Libre Office/Calc (version 7.5.9.2) and WS10, and I have tried running Libre Office/Calc in both normal and safe mode and it keeps on crashing.

I’m working on a very simple calculation sheet, about 20 rows 8 columns, mostly text and a few very simple algorithms. It seems to work fine form time to time but when I’m trying to delete a row with text it crashes. Same thing happens when I try to perform a few other similar simple standard operations, so any suggestions are mostly welcome.

All the best wishes:slight_smile:

Try opening Control Panel - Programs and Features, right click LibreOffice and select Repair

Also check that you have sufficient free space in your hard drive.
