MacOS-wide keyboard behavior on accents ignored/suppressed

On macOS I can enter accented letters with an English keyboard by simply pressing the unaccented letter key for some (longer) time, then I see a menu where I can see all possile diacritics and choose one by pressing a number. This works with all applications: except LibreOffice, which suppresses such feature: if I press a key for a longer time I only see many repeated letters entered in the text (like it would happen on a PC). How can I restore the standard macOS behavior on LO? and why it does not follow the standard?

100% agree. This is very useful for tying Japanese names in English ā ō ū, for example.
