Mail merge on a Debian machine

is anyone else having problems with the mail merge in writer?

We are using mail merge to import custom tags from a spreadsheet for a lengthy document of around 80 pagers and have 20 different merging tags to add in to the doc.

The problem which has only developed over the last week is that the text of of tag has been placed however the tag in not grayed out and lacks the function in the mail merge.

We are using a Debian distro and have updated to latest software to try and solve the issue with out any luck.
We have also tried on a different machine but the same problem.

2. Remove confidential information keeping the mail merge fields.
3. Upload the document.
