Mail Merge > Test Settings crashes LO

Under Options > LibreOffice Writer > Mail Merge E-Mail, I can put in my IMAP and SMTP settings just fine, but as soon as I click Test Settings, the whole programme freezes on me and I have to force-close it.

And I’m pretty sure the settings themselves are accurate because I got the IMAP and SMTP settings straight from Google, and I double-checked, too.

Also, I’m not sure if it matters (probably does), but I didn’t use my Google password; rather, I used an application-specific password.

In any case, just in case I got something wrong in the settings, here are some screenshots:

In spite of your answer to CBhihe in an almost duplicate question (Q56030) I’ve used both .gmail.com + .googlemail.com for both smtp & imap settings with my system email (‘googlemail’ has been my original settings for the last few years & ‘gmail’ just now after independent research) & both work.

I’ve no idea why it fails with the Mail-Merge utility, but I would suggest some basic tests from the command line to reassure yourself that your system is functioning accurately:-
