Not all footnote options are displaying

On one document, there is the option to change the separator line by finding the page style under [Styles], right-clicking for [Edit Style…] and going to the [Footnote] tab.

I’ve compiled this document with others (different page styles within) in a large document, and the new document doesn’t show all the footnote options.

I’ve restarted the program, but the same thing happens. With both docs open, I can see it in one but not the other.

Version: 24.8.4.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
OS: Windows 11 X86_64 (10.0 build 22621)
Locale: en-US (en_US)
UI: en-US

Giving advice requires to be able to reproduce the issue. OS name? LO version? Save format?

Are there sections in your faulty document?

Can you attach a small sample document still exhibiting the problem?

I’ve updated the thread with the OS and version.

Yes, this has many section. Attached is the entire ODT doc with the text removed.

Test Doc.odt (21.6 KB)

Your sample file is worthless because it is empty. I need the notes to study the “glitch”. If you consider your text as private or confidential, replace any character by “x”. You can do that with regexp . and replacement string x. Press Replace All.

I see you have frames in your document. You did the obvious mistake of anchoring your frames To page. Frames are usually related to some paragraph or word in text and should be anchored To paragraph so that they follow their anchor during edits. Don’t be abused by To page anchor name. Except for As character, a frame can be moved to any location in page. To page has a very special technical role: it detaches the frame from text, welding it definitively to some page, no matter what you do to your text (even emptying the document won’t move the frame from its anchoring point, leaving many indestructible blank pages).

Provide the appropriate sample file.

Your document has been converted from another format, probably .docx. I suppose the page layout in Word doesn’t support any other options so nor does the converted document.

I suggest to copy everything into a new blank document.

A bit intensely worded, but I appreciate the reply all the same. I’d deleted the text and images, because at 777 pages, it would be a huge file. Yes, there’s the cloud upload option, but since as you mentioned, the indestructible blank pages keep all the structure there… or so I thought.

The obvious mistake (silly me) of using To page was because there were background images that kept getting thrown around, and To page worked. But I’ll do some research on the better approach because it seems to be causing other issues.

What worked was thanks to @mikekaganski and all the controls are now displayed.

This difference was implemented in 24.8 for tdf#160984 that improved “continuous endnotes” as a compatibility feature, and the controls were hidden with the following explanation:

Now ODT files keep the original feature set and Word files look as
expected, but a couple of UI controls are ignored by the layout, hide
these as they intentionally don’t do anything while we’re in Word compat
mode.

And the compatibility setting controlling that is “Render endnotes at the end of document inline, rather than on a separate page”:
