LO Writer 26.2.0.3. When I try to close up the spaces between pages, I often get strange behavior, though the results are inconsistent and variable. The page numbers might change drastically (ex., from 39 to 52) requiring me to try to find my prior location by scrolling; displayed pages might reduce (I have seen pages of only 3 lines between page breaks); The number of pages might increase (my document has gone from 563 to 994). Using the “View Whitespace” module is better, but how am I to know what is actually true? Please fix this.
Can you tell us if in menu View the actual option is Normal or Web?
Not seeing the document, I just can guess.
There are manual page breaks in the document?
There seems to be a recent bug when Show whitespace is turned off in that it cannot calculate the correct number of pages. See 'View > Whitespace' ... doc changes number of pages
How should the number of pages be the same?
So, when “Show whitespace” is not enabled:
- It does not do its job, so the text per page is the same.
or - It should show a different number than the one where the cursor is.
Of course they should be the same. All you want "whitespace’ to do is to close up the white spaces at the top and bottom of the pages, not to effect the text at all.
In case you didn’t notice, the other answer below was mine. It was my very first, and I didn’t didn’t know about the reply bubble. It did not show a title when I moused over it.
Normal, and No, I have set no manual page breaks. I had also neglected to say that the viewed position (the place I was editing when I double-clicked the space between the pages) can change by many pages, requiring lots of scrolling to regain position. This is REALLY annoying.
Also that when the white space is removed, the pages can overlap just a bit. This isn’t a problem, as such, but may be something to keep in mind as the other stuff is being fixed.
