I am trying to print the current date in a report generated with the Base Report Writer extension, which seems like a fairly obvious task. The function TODAY() returns the date in internal format. There are routines for converting strings to internal format, but how can I generate a human-readable date?

Thanks for the suggestion, rautamiekka, After a crash last week, I am using a freshly downloaded version of Ubuntu and L-O, to which I have added Base and its Report Builder. Should be up to date with the stable distro. What is in the L-O ppa that will make a difference?
The PPA has the newest version quickly, whereas a new version will take long to arrive to Ubuntu repos. If ever.
