Problem with formulas after new install

Hi
I’m using LibreOffice 24.2.7.2 (X86_64) on Ubuntu 24.4.
It is a brand new installation.

I’m experiencing a problem with the formula editor in Writer.

I’m trying to insert a V with a bar above it.

I get no error messages or anything but the bar is not there and the borders or the formula are very tall.

The bar is not visible in a print preview or a pdf export either.

It is visible when I preview the document in a browser, but with a large amount of space between the V and the bar.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thank you.

You are using some exotic fonts for the formula:

  • Liberation Sans Narrow for the mathematical,
  • Nimbus Sans for the sans serif, and
  • Nimbus Mono PS for the monospace font.

Try to use the default font sets. For example OpenSymbol for the mathematical set.

Thanks, that works.
I didn’t consider this as the source of the problem as I copied the settings I used on my old installation and they never gave me any trouble.

I can’t recall using the “bar” operator. It looks weird (way too high above the “operand”).

Can you use overline V instead?

Nevermind! Appears to be a font issue. Your formula definition works fine with standard fonts. Probably best to revert to some font with sensible dimensioning for the bar character, cf. the comment from @Zizi64 .
