Special characters from web page copy and paste, not printing

Pages copied and pasted into LibreOffice 6.4 Writer print without embedded color characters (arrows, checks, etc.) Won’t export to PDF either.

They do export to JPG okay. So why not to the printer?

I’ve seen related issues mentioned, but no fixes.

On Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS

Do you have a sample? It might be a missing font issue

Where are the links?

Guesswork: The font is not available. LibreOffice is showing a replacement, wich is converted to jpg. The pdf will have the name of the font and task the viewer to provide a glyph.

Upload an example .odt here for inspection…

Are you talking about colored emojis? Note that there was some substantial work on them, exactly in the area of PDF export (which is also relevant for printing on Linux), since the ancient version 6.4. Indeed, you use an old LTS version of Ubuntu; but that doesn’t mean that it would magically get newer development. Upgrade (maybe using the PPA).

So - it’s indeed the emojis, and is fixed in recent versions.

Thank you.

Just forced an update on Ubuntu. Still doesn’t work. I guess their archives are behind.

:frowning:

You asked your Ubuntu to do updates of the installed software?
This will only give you security patches for your Ubuntu of 2020.
IMHO policy was not to do major updates, so “your” ubuntu will never even reach LibreOffice 7.x for a regular install. (And I read the promise of security patches is only for core ubuntu, not “everything available”).
.
You can try snap/flatpack versions or change to a newer version of Ubuntu itself. As your Ubuntu has end of standard Updates in May 2025, wich begins in 2 weeks you should test something like the “current” LTS 24.04:
