Start Center; Enhancement; who is interested?

Dear community,

I am looking for someone who can make the LibreOffice Start Centre accessible via menu entry or keyboard shortcut from the LibreOffice modules Writer, Calc, Impress and Base.

The description is detailed in ticket 77590 comment 65. Currently 40 people are watching this topic. I think that some would be willing to make a financial contribution to the development.

Is anyone interested in the development? If you are, please let me know what effort would be involved and how this could be paid for or which platform would be suitable for crowdfunding.

Thanks in advance

interesting it got no answer in 3 months :expressionless:

You may try on Development/Mailing List - The Document Foundation Wiki
or more generally https://community.documentfoundation.org/c/board-discuss/26

or in the private sector Professional Support | LibreOffice - Free and private office suite - Based on OpenOffice - Compatible with Microsoft

Please explain which enhancement you hope for in the Start Center.

The present functionality of the Start Center is available from any open document window as:

  • various variants if File>New to create a new document,
  • File>Recent Documents (the list can be filtered by Current Module Only` check box in the menu)

What else do you need?

I hesitate to contact the Development/Mailing List because according to the website it is only meant for conversations between developers.
Thanks for the advice.

The Start Center offers the possibility, regardless of the currently active module (writer, calc, impress), to open one of the recently used files from a thumbnail view either across modules or filtered by module. In the Start Center, it is also possible to pin and unpin selected files for quick access beyond desktop shortcuts. By calling up the Start Center from the modules and thereby being able to open pinned files or recently opened files (cross-module or module-specific), more rapidly usable functionality is available than with “Recent Documents”.

like bugzilla is not detailled enough ? :innocent:
legacy story → Design/Whiteboards/Start Center - The Document Foundation Wiki

well, @HeikoTietze reacted to your comment by adding needsDevAdvice to bugzilla,
@mikekaganski answered as well today … probably due to this very topic …
Changes made to bug 77590

I guess the concrete funding question falls into a touchy no man’s land around TDF,
maybe @ilmari or @floeff would have a more concrete suggestion for you.

If contracting certified developers is not an option, you can of course post a gig to a freelancing platform like https://www.fiverr.com/

Thanks again for the advice. I will keep at it. Perhaps a blueprint for the funding of developments can eventually be created.

thanks for advice. I’ll ask in the dev mailling list.

the question is : how to proceed ?
pick them randomly (or exhaustively) and send out emails ?
(the webpage doesn’t even provide contact info for most)

Then maybe the ones without contact info are not very interested in receiving contacts. Having certification does not mean that you would be actively offering services. Note that Collabora and allotropia recently merged, so there is even less contacts to make. If there would be more options some day, the general procedure for tendering anything applies: do as much background research on the companies as you have time for, send requests for quotes to as many as you feel comfortable with, review the received quotes and decide on the best one (not necessarily the least expensive).
