Starting out with Impress - problem with callouts

I created a master slide, with a background colour, and adapted the styles to fit my branding, with font colour, area fill etc.

However when I want to draw a new callout on a slide, it is invisible except the corner anchors, and if I don’t click in the right place which I don’t actually recognise anyway, the object disappears.

How do I rescue the situation and create callouts which have an outline or background as desired?

Upload a sample file here, so someone can look at it and examine it.

I think it looks good on me.

Maybe you have not tried some settings concerning the graphics card in LibreOffice.
Look here under First Steps, the points regarding graphics.

Or maybe you have used a color theme that is causing problems.

But what happens when you try to place a speech bubble or thought bubble callout on the slide?

I only see the corner anchors, and then it disappears if I click anywhere. The behaviour I expect is that clicking anywhere else after placing the bubble would leave the bubble with its background or outline just sitting there ready to be edited further.

You must enter text straight away after inserting the bubble!

Ah, OK. I see the text now when I start typing. My instinct was to try to position it in the right place first.

However my speech bubbles are all transparent with no outline. How did you change the ones you created?

Actually I can see that I can modify the default style and it changes. At some point I must have set the default style to have no outline lines and none area fill.

Thanks for walking me through it.

As far as graphical elements are concerned, Impress and Draw work equally well.

Try to study the manuals a little.

English documentation

That’s a very polite request to RTFM. I had actually read them. In my defence (and the defence of the manuals), something has changed and my attempts to change the style used by the callouts is now working as expected - unlike yesterday.
