Unwanted cursor highlighting in Writer

I saw maybe one other person posting about this, what looks like last year. However, the discussion is closed so I can’t even read the help response. I am trying to place my cursor somewhere specific to do some editing, but it will highlight the entire letter/space next to the cursor, and replaces what I already have typed with the edit entirely. This feature is driving me absolutely insane! I don’t want to have to retype an entire sentence when I want to add one word or letter to the middle of it.

I use Libre 7.6.6, is there any way to turn this off?

When typing it overwrites existing text. Will not Insert

Generally when cursor is placed between words for example and you start typing it will INSERt the new words. All of a sudden it will only overwrite. What setting it this and how do I change it back

When I type before a character, it deletes the following letter! how do I fix this?

How to reset writer to default settings

Do you mean that following characters are replaced one at a time as long as you hold the space bar down? Perhaps you have set Writer in Overwrite mode, which shows on your Status Bar like this: [overwrite] Click on Overwrite on the status bar, or use your keyboard’s Insert key, if it has one, to toggle between Insert and Overwrite mode.

Writer overwrites text at beginning of line

Note that a) there is an indicator in the status bar that indicates when you are in overwrite mode - and you can click on that to toggle insert / overwrite mode in addition to the Insert key; and b) the cursor changes to a block cursor when in a location where text will be overwritten. [insover]
