Why I don't have permission to delete my own topic

Another user, instead of deleting his own post, just edited and deleted the question content (but not the topic title). Testing to explain how to delete a topic, I opened a topic created by me, and just hovered the mouse on the trash can, and Surprise! I got the message: “you don’t have permission to delete this topic”.

Why? Is there a way to delete a topic without flagging it? Or a leader user must make it unlisted?
Before we eventually unlist a topic, must we (to be polite) message the topic creator explaining our action?
Thanks.

AFAIK it’s not possible to delete a topic once it has been replied to (answered or commented). Did you see the same message here before my reply? Assuming that’s the reason, the UI is arguably confusing since Start with different languages of UI (by adding variables to the direct access icon?) has only replies by you which you can delete first, so this is not a matter of permission.

That is goodnews when there is an elaborated answer, so it don’t disappears.

I don’t tested. Sorry.
I will test when in my next new topic, and inform here.
Thanks @guilhem.
