When I click the maximize button to resize the application window in Ubuntu 16.10 multiple times to resize the window, the window frame is redrawn and every next frame size becomes progressively smaller with the previous frame remaining. The result is the shrinking of the work area, and the application becoming unstable.
After some research I unchecked the “Switch between minimized windows” check-box as described in this post:

This enables one to restore the “broken” window with a minimize and reopen of the application.
