Writer all messed up

Hi,

I’m using LO Writer on Linux
I did a writer’s document with headers and footers. And now, each time I start a new empty document, both header and footer are activated (blank) and I can’t get rid of them!
When on the blank page, I click on Header and see: “Header (Default Page Style)”. Next, I open the drop-down menu and click on “delete header” and the empty header is still there. So I go to “Format Header” and there I saw it was activated . So I deactivate it and click on apply. And there’s still a header and now it shows “Right Header”. So I do it all again, but it doesn’t change. Each time I deactive, I apply and it stays.

Here is a more detailed version and I’m adding screen captures as well:
I’m giving more details:

I’ve been using writer for a while and everything was OK. I started working on a document a few days ago and needed to have a header and footer on each page. I also needed to have a slightly different header and footer on each page so I inserted a page break and it worked like a charm. Then, this morning I opened a blank page to start a new document and this when the mess started. I have a header and a footer that don’t want to go and both are empty. This is what I did to try to solve this:

Format - Page Style - Header. And the box “Header on” is NOT checked.
Format - Page Style - Footer. And the box “Footer on” is NOT checked.

So I went back to the blank page and clicked on “+” right next to “Header (Default Page Style)”

    • Drop-down menu - Delete Header - Yes… the header is still empty and still there
    • Drop-down menu - Format Header - and I have the same window as when I went to Page Style but now there’s a check mark in “Header on”. I remove the check mark, click on YES, Apply, OK and the header is still there but the name changed for "Right Page Header (Default Page Style)

I wanted to add screen captures but not allowed to (but 1)because I’m new…

Which Linux distro? LO version (all four numbers)? Save format (odt or doc(x))?

Have you fiddled with Writer configuration (even not intentionally) and replaced somehow the default template?

For better diagnostic, attach a sample document with the problem. This won’t fix the issue if it is related to the default template but will give an idea about your formatting.

That is just a prompt to make it “easier” to insert a header. You can turn it off by clicking Insert > Header and Footer > Use header/footer menu to toggle visibility of the prompt.

That “prompt” wasn’t there before and the area where I write (the page) is reduced. It’s lie Writer is forcing the header to be there (same for the footer) no mather what.

Have you created a template? If so, do you want the template to be the default but without headers? Or do you want it to be just a template that you can access from time to time?

.
If it is a template, click File > Templates > Manage Templates (Ctrl+Shift+N). Find the template with a green tick, right click it and click Reset Default
.
Can you create a blank document with a single word in it and upload it here. Click the up-pointing arrow icon, 7th from left with tooltip Upload

I have no other templates than the ones coming with Writer

I am editing my original question to add more details

It’s good now! It was, indeed, the Insert - Header and Footer - Use header / Footer menu. The box was checked. I have no idea how this came out to be since I don’t remember going to that menu! So a big thanks to you

It is on by default. Maybe you never clicked above the paragraph area previously.

Maybe that… who knows? But it’s now fixed thanks to your kind help
