Writer freezes when editing the bottom part of pages

Hello,

I use Libreoffice writer version: 6.1.4.2 on an Acer laptop with Fedora 29 as OS and Gnome 3.30.2 as desktop manager.

When I reach the bottom of some pages while typing, libreoffice freezes and I have to kill it. I if try to click on or edit in any way one of those buggy places, it instantly freezes. However, if I add a page break before the buggy places, I can edit them on the next page, where they are no longer at the bottom of the page.

I tried disabling graphics acceleration and automatic spell checking, reinstalling libreoffice and deleting the configuration files, which didn’t change anything. I also reinstalled Fedora for another reason, and writer keeps freezing anyway.

I couldn’t find reports of a similar bug online.

@ajlittoz It only happens on documents of 4 pages or more. Here is a document where it happens. It happens when I click anywhere on the first page, even when I click on the top lines. Writer freeze.odt

Does this happen on all documents? If it is specific to some docs only, can you share a 1/2 pages file?

Mmmh, works fine here. My production machine is Fedora 28/KDE with LO 6.0.6.0 (I have 6.1.x in a Fedora 29 virtual machine but everything OK also). Have you tried resetting your profile? As a fool-proof test, create a new user (to ensure there is no invisible dot files in the home directory) within the same group. Grant group write permission on the file (or a copy of). Login under this new user and open the problematic file from the menu. Does it still happen ?

I tried resetting my profile as you suggested, it still happens. By the way, I should mention that it only happens on my laptop, it never happened on my desktop computer (which is running the same version of Fedora and of Libreoffice writer).

I have such discrepancies between my laptop and desktop but not with LO (Firefox is one case). I’m thinking of reformatting the drive and reinstalling everything from scratch (instead of upgrading) once I’ve backed up and converted all my important files. This work has been in progress for one year! because I check all my data and make them up-to-date. I suspect application private files but I can’t tell which because there are so many in so many config directories.

I have experienced libreoffice writer and calc freezing sometimes after booting up a few minutes; almost always after my pc has been in sleep mode. Doesn’t matter if I do a normal boot or wake the pc; libreoffice writer or calc both freeze for no apparent reason. I have tried all the suggested fixes; clear profile, No OpenGL, no hardware acceleration; reinstalling with a 32 bit version. All on my Windows 10 pc. I tried the 64 bit version for months (lots of freezing), then tried the 32 bit (now I am back to freezing everytime I boot up.
