Writer stucks at auto saving the file

I am running LibreOffice 6.1.5.2 on Debian 10 on Laptop computer as well as on PureOS on Desktop computer. Automatic Saving is on and set at every 5 minutes. Occasionally I face this situation:

Writer tries to save file (as per automatic saving setting) and stuks while saving. The progress bar for saving starts filling and it is saving and saving and saving. It continues the process of saving and never comes out of it. Meanwhile save and export options are disable so I can’t manually save my file from getting destroyed.

Even I can’t close the program using close button on Title bar. I can use “close file” option from file menu which shows a dialogue box save, cancel and don’t save. Only don’t save works.

Even after closing the program, background process doesn’t goes, If I check who is consuming lots of CPU, I finds that process associated with LibreOffice is still running and I need to kill that process.

have been having this very same issue using writer only.

• It does indeed be related to automatic saving (every 5 minutes) as manual save, save as or saving as a version (File → Versions…) works fine.

• This has been happening since yesterday for a 2 page document, which I simply added a few words to, then auto save comes up and hangs LO indefinately.

• Also happening on a relatively new document with a word or something in there.

• Interesting thing is that I have recently been importing text/character styles from a file as I’m building some nice character formatting. This could perhaps be the cause, perhaps once of the style options is breaking something? Doesn’t really make sense why this would cause a problem, but it is the only thing that I am doing different recently.

@Pandya: is the file by chance a MS format (DOC(X)/XLS(X)/…) and password-protected? could it be related to tdf#118639? (not relevant for @blashrkh, since fixed in 6.3.5 and 6.4.0)

This current post is probably related to another post by @Pandya. Regarding general input-ouput error when saving. As suggested it could be a still opened OLE object by an external application preventing successful save and auto-save crashes LO.

Are you saving this locally to your machine? Or is saved to a remote system?
