How can I change the default font in all components of LibreOffice (for network / organisation deployment)?

Hi

How to change default font in all applications of Libreoffice?

I know the template method for the writer but i want to change default font in all applications.

it would be helpful if someone can tell me which file in libreoffice folders (program, share, config) the changes are, so that i can make sure that i can push the file through my system management tool to all users.

thanks

OP: @slax.

It needs to be done somewhat differently per-component.

Writer

  1. Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Basic Fonts (Western) > set fonts as required.
  2. For Asian and Complex Text Layout (CTL) fonts Tools > Options > Language Settings > Languages > check the options for these languages > click OK. Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Basic Fonts (Asian) and Basic Fonts (CTL) > set fonts as required.[1]

Calc

  1. Sidebar > Styles and Formatting panel > right-click on the Default cell style > Modify… > Font tab > set fonts as required > click OK.
  2. File > Templates > Save as Template… > select location > click Save > enter a meaningful name > click OK.
  3. File > Templates > Manage > select location > Spreadsheet tab > select template > click Set as Default.

Impress

  1. Sidebar > Styles and Formatting panel > there is no base style, so you will likely have to edit the Title, Subtitle, Notes, and Outline N presentation styles as indicated above for Calc. Perhaps also consider editing the Default image style.[2]
  2. Save to template (as above for Calc).
  3. Set template as the default (as above for Calc but under the Presentations tab).

Draw

  1. Sidebar > Styles and Formatting panel > edit the Default image style[2] as indicated above for Calc.
  2. Save to template (as above for Calc).
  3. Set template as the default (as above for Calc but under the Drawings tab).

Math

  1. Format > Fonts…
  2. Modify > select the type to modify from the pull-down menu > select a font > click OK. Repeat for each type in the pull-down menu.
  3. Click Default > click Yes > click OK.

Base

AFAIK there are no font settings for this component, but perhaps a Base expert will comment further.

[1] Enhancement fdo#33743 is the related report to get these “Basic Fonts” options added to Calc, Impress, and Draw.

[2] Be aware that there are reports as to the effectiveness of the Default image style to propagate settings to child styles. You may need to also edit font settings for required child styles prior to saving templates for Impress / Draw.

In the case of the Math part of this answer, note that this does not change the font for symbols/Greek letters. There is no easy way to change the font for the symbols that LibreOffice uses, AFAIK. (And this is a problem).

This doesn’t change the font size of the built-in row and column headings in Calc, how do you do that please?

(Separate question posted at LibreOffice Calc change font of built-in row and column headers/headings)

thanks , its work

Thanks a lot for the answer oweng

As i already mentioned, i know the template method.

But i am trying to deploy change of font across the organization, after extensive digging i finally found the solution.

Need to edit \share\registry\main.xcd

thanks

Sorry, I missed the bit about deployment in an organisation network environment. In this case you will need to edit the indicated file.

Hello slax/oweng,
Can you help me how to change the default font size? I am able to change the default font by editing main.xcd. But I could not find the option for font-size?

Thanks.

main.xce does not exist libreoffice 6.6.0.2 and librewriter does not exist under libreoffice-.options

Thanks so much for your help with setting the default fonts for lIbre office draw. I was tearing my hair out over this one. Why isn’t the libre office help system more helpful? I got confused trying to figure out how the heck to use it, gave up and looked on the web. . .
