Add check boxes to determine if sales tax is added

Hi, long-time user of LibreOffice here, but I’m stumped.

I’m having to charge sales tax for certain items and labor. I’d like to add a checkbox to each line item in my invoice template, and have a sales tax item in the subtotals column that multiplies the amount times 9.5% on each line item with the checked box.

Thanks for your time.

That’s amazing! What I need is a check box for each line item, not one box for all. I might be able to deduce the rest based on your example, but if you could possibly break it down to one line per selection, I know I could make that work.

Like 99% of all users having some spreadsheet trouble, you are trying to use a spreadsheet as a database surrogate. Either you learn to live with the massive restrictions of the wrong tool or you learn to create a database. In the long run, even the worst database is more efficient than a bunch of calculator cells.

I’m a web developer, skilled in a few varieties of SQL. I was hoping that I could make use of macros and the like with the excellent invoice template I’m already using with Calc. But if a selection box on each line item is too much for Calc to grok, I can dig it.

No matter how much macro code you throw at a spreadsheet, it will never come close to the functionality of database software. Could you please be so kind and point me to your excellent invoice template on a spreadsheet? SInce 25 years I’m a collector of such curiosities.

I’m new, they won’t let me post files. I could email you if you’d like to list a web-safe address. And thanks again!
