Chapter Name and Number fields

I have a problem with chapter name and number, after making alot of search i failed to find a solution. Here is a a description of what I did

1. Make an outline numbering for the chapter numbering, I use heading 1 as a style , and I used a number of 1,2,3 and a before separator the word "Chapter "
2. I have the chapter number correctly when I choose the heading 1
3. I typed the chapter name, and I put it in Heading 2
4. When I insert a field in the header for chapter number with level 1 and for chapter name for level 2 I only have chapter number but never have the chapter name.

Could any one please help? I really get tired with this issue

It seems to be a bug. I have even discovered that you will get different results for the same field if you put it on different lines on the same page taking into account that this page contains only one header 1 (chapter name) and one Header 2 (Chapter Number)

After reading the help more and more, I cannot find one the need for the level setting on the field configuration. The chapter name and number only works if you apply your custom outline numbering BUT there is still a problem.

The chapter name is always on the same line of the chapter number; Do any one knows a ways to make the chapter name on a new line using the outline numbering?

I’m not sure I understand your need (my poor English, very sorry). It is possible to have the chapter number on a line and the chapter name on the next line:

By default the chapter number is followed by a tab (menu Tools Outline Numbering Position tab). So just update the Heading 1 paragraph style to add a tab (e.g. 17cm in the attached TitleTwoLines.odt), “pushing” the text to the next line.

In the example I also have increase the line spacing to 3cm.

I have one problem with the your solution… I failed to put both chapter name and number in the middle of the line … Is there a way.

I have a solution and it was working perfectly except one point. Please give it a look below and let me know if you can help.

I found a solution

1. Make the outline numbering putting the word chapter in the “before separator”
2. Before the chapter name, but unicode character which is equivalent to Enter (U000A)

Thats it. Now we have a Chapter number is a line and the Title in another. The fields of the libreoffice writer can now address the correct parameters

A small correction, Mohammad: U+000A LF is Shift+Enter. Enter (or Return ↲) is U+000D CR. LF causes a newline, whereas CR causes a new paragraph. To complete this, U+000C FF (Ctrl+Enter) will cause a new-page.
