When adding a 300 Kb (!!) GIF animation to Impress it slows down horribly. I have a very modern / powerful PC. How is it possible that in 2024 this is a problem within LibreOffice? Very frustrating.

Just guessing now, try this: click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View and tick the box Force Skia software rendering.
This sample runs fine on my not so fancy laptop. The jerkiness is in the GIF itself, only 17 frames.

Thank you for your reply.
Force Skia software rendering
is enabled and the GIF in your ODP file works well.
The GIF I am having trouble with is this one:
I see about a 10 second delay while it loads the slide with the animated GIF image. I did a presentation with two pages beforehand in case there was any pre-loading of the next page which would affect load times.
