Having Difficulties with a Form showing results as Data Sheet

My system info is:

I’m finding creating a Form showing results as Data Sheet quite frustrating. On at least one occasion, when changing the table colours in design view my whole screen went black, apart from the table - very scarey. Then part of the table image disappeared, then came back again. Some sort of corruption going on that doesn’t encourage confidence.

The problem I have now is that when I set Navigation Bar and Record Marker Scroll bar to ‘No’ I’m still getting the lower Navigation bar showing. In fact, changing Navigation Bar setting from Yes to No seems to simply change it’s position and size at the bottom - it doesn’t cause it to be invisible.

This ‘Mainform Grid’ simply doesn’t seem very stable. Is it just me?

Any thoughts about this? Thanks.

Can that be a tool/symbol bar? This is not part of the form, but can be de-avtivated from the menu.

Please add a screenshot for this behavior. Might be you have to set form properties → data → navigation bar → no. Note: The area for navigation bar inside table control will be marked grey if navigation bar is disabled in the table control. This behavior is bug 95017

Hi RobertG.

OK I tried " set form properties → data → navigation bar → no ." No change.

As for “Note: The area for navigation bar inside table control will be marked grey if navigation bar is disabled in the table control.” Well, it’s grey anyway (in edit and form view) but it is still active - I can use it even though it’s supposed to be ‘off’.

Please see the attached screenshot. It shows the form in edit mode with the table control
settings. You can see the scroll bar (Navigation bar?) at the bottom and it remains there when I save the form, close it and reopen it in form view. Are you suggesting that this is a known bug? Thanks.

Wanderer: Well, when I change ‘Navigation Bar’ on and off, what happens is what I would call a scroll bar simply gets larger or bigger - at the bottom of the Data Sheet (which is called MainForm Grid in Edit view). I can’t see any mention of Scroll bars.

I’ve just read the Manual and it does say, in the Forms section, “Navigation bar: The appearance of the Navigation Bar at the bottom of the screen can be
switched on or off.”

Whatever it’s called, I can’t get rid of it.

RobertG: Just saw your post. I’ll reply shortly.

OK, hang on here. I’ve done some more experiments and I see what’s happening now.

That little scroll bar appears if I try to restrict the width of the table so that it contains the two fields exactly. If I go into edit view and stretch the right hand side of the table out, then view it in form view, the scroll bar isn’t there. So it seems it’s something I actually can’t switch off. Or can I?

My problem now is with the look of the table. To avoid having the scroll bar, I’m left with having what looks like a bit of empty field on the right hand side of the table. Please see this screenshot. You can see that the scroll bar has gone but the right hand side of the table looks untidy, as if there’s something missing just off the page (I’ve hidden the Description field entries):

There is no Navigation Bar in any of your screenshots. By the way: You could add screenshots directly, not inside a *.odt-Document. So there isn’t needed a download.

You try to get away the automatic appearing scrollbars, not the navigation bar. The table control field should expand to a width, which should allow the two fields of your table control and a vertical scrollbar. Then a horizontal scrollbar will never appear.

Sorry, one more question, having read this post again. When you say “The table control field should expand to a width…” do you mean that there is some way to make the table width expand automatically, like you can set a text field in a Report to do? If so I can’t find any such setting.

I do know how to manually adjust the width of the Table.

And that is what I intended: Width of the two fields and with of a scrollbar for vertical scrolling.
If there are fields for text you could set this fields to Multiline Input (Properties Text Box → General → Multiline Input. But that will only expand vertical, not horizontal. Will do the same as expanding in reports.

Thank you.

Thanks RobertG

I must find out how to add a screenshot directly. Do you mean I just take a screenshot and then use the upload option?

As for your other comment. If I add the width of the fields, in my table, together and make the table exactly that width, it looks good but I get a lower scrollbar. I have to make the table slightly wider to get rid of the scrollbar and then the table looks untidy (as per my last post).

Looks like I’ll have to live with that.

Thanks for the help.
