[Meta] Why does search from Q&A page return home page only?

When I am on an actual Q&A page, and want to look up something, I’ll use the search box in the green banner in the header. When I type in my terms and hit enter, it always sends me back to the home page. It generates URLs of this kind:

https://ask.libreoffice.org/c/english/5

which … goes to the home page! This strikes me as weird, counter-intuitive, etc. I would expect to get the results of my search query.

So it seems this search box is only usable FROM the home page. This has to be a bug, yes? Or is it just me? =/

I completely agree @dajare. I have never had this work in either Firefox (any platform) or Iceweasel (GNU/Linux). On the home page there is no need to press ENTER: simply type the search terms and the results list will update in a filter manner. As per the link in my answer here there is currently no open bug dealing with the issue of searching this site. I thought there was another question relating to searching but, perhaps ironically, I can’t find it at present. I may have been thinking of your other question about sorting unanswered questions.

Thanks @oweng - glad to know it isn’t just me. I did what I should have done earlier and checked the Askbot site where the same problem reported. As of Dec 2012, seems still not to be fixed. Also logged bug - hopefully the right place!

The AskLO site is a lot less broken for me that the AskBot site. As you can see in this shot the search field appears below the actual search area. That is Iceweasel under Crunchbang 11.

@oweng - yep, that isn’t pretty. Here’s what I get with Firefox under Mint 13. You’ll see the Google Font delivery of Open Sans Condensed isn’t happening for Iceweasel/Crunchbang either. Wee shame.

It seems to be just your browser, since it works for me in Firefox.

What browser do you use? What page are you on when you type in the search query?

@mahfiaz - it would make sense if it was only me, but it seems so consistent I wonder if others experience this too. It’s not a browser issue, though: for me it is the same in FF, Opera, and Chrome. (As for OS, I’m on Linux Mint 13 at the moment.) The behaviour is consistent from ANY Q&A page, even this one for example. Most odd.
