Strange interaction between 'Define Range' and Dropbox

I’m aware that this is not really a LibreOffice-only problem, but I thought I’d post it here just in case anyone else has come across this problem (and maybe has a solution).

OK, so I have a spreadsheet (in .xlsx format, but .ods shows the same behaviour) in my Dropbox. When I use a browser or the Android Dropbox app to preview the file, it works fine. Except…when I define a range. Defining a single range is enough to make the file not previewable in Dropbox (both browser and Android app) - the message “.xlsx files are supported but something went wrong.” comes up. As soon as I delete the range…the preview works again. It’s so confusing.

Again, I realise this isn’t strictly a LO Calc problem, but maybe someone else has seen it (or can figure out what’s going on).

I don’t see that problem in Dropbox.
In the screenshot below, the range is $Sheet1.$A$2:$C$21. Dates are converted to USA format and the first row of the defined range, A2:C2, is aligned differently; it seems to automatically set the first row of a named range as a header row.
I guess this is an issue with Dropbox preview.

Thanks for taking the time.

That’s so odd. I just uploaded your file to my Dropbox and everything works fine. Then I opened my file…everything works fine. Then I created a range in my file…and bam, preview no longer works. And it’s not just preview, I can’t open the file inside Dropbox (again, via browser and Android app). In the PC that’s no problem, I just open LO Calc. But I usually consult the spreadsheet on my phone, and it’s quite annoying not being able to just open it inside Dropbox and have to use Sheets or something like that. It takes longer, and, honestly, it’s much more cluttered (I rarely want to edit the file on my phone, I just want to open it).

This is so strange. I’ll upload the file, just so someone can test it out if they want to. I’m leaving the ranges defined the way I want them to work, then you can test as is, and can then delete the ranges and test again.

You attached a .xlsx file, does the same happen with .ods files?

Yes, I’ve tried saving it in ods and the behaviour stays the same.

Probably more than one range confuses Dropbox preview, I see the problem with your spreadsheet.

I have Collabora Office (on LO Advisory board and contributor to LibreOffice) installed on my phone and it has no problem with your spreadsheet.

Thanks a lot for taking a look. I might switch to Google Drive or just open it with Sheets or Collabora Office (I too have it on my phone).

Thanks, guys.

I set Collabora office to be default when I click on an office file in Dropbox
